18 Oct 2021 ASTM will reduce greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2030 with targets approved by the SBTi
The ASTM Group, of which Sinelec is part as a technology company applied to mobility, continues its commitment to sustainability, the protection of the environment and the growth and development of the communities in which it operates.
Indeed, the Group is the first European motorway operator to receive the approval of its targets of reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international reality initiative born from the partnership between CDP (formerly called Carbon Disclosure Project), United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), to verify the alignment of companies’ decarbonization targets with the indications of the Paris Agreement.
Specifically, the ASTM Group and therefore also Sinelec commit to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG (Green House Gases) emissions – respectively on direct and indirect emissions derived from the consumption of electricity purchased by the organisation – 25% by 2030 from a 2020 base year. The ASTM Group also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG indirect emissions from purchased goods and services 13% within the same timeframe.
“The validation of our targets confirms the ASTM Group’s commitment and determination to continue along the path of sustainability that has been taken, – commented the CEO Umberto Tosoni – aware of the responsibilities that we must all safeguard the planet and the environment that surrounds us. Sustainability is a part of ASTM’s DNA, which is why we are the first European motorway operator to receive the approval on a scientific basis of our objectives for the reduction of GHG emissions.”
Sinelec shares this result with pride and great satisfaction and, together with the other Companies in the Group, will contribute to the achievement of the targets set, with a view to an increasingly sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
